I know I’m not the only one who is starting to feel a little bit blue from winter. Seems like once Christmas and New Year’s comes and goes, winter starts to wear out its welcome. This is especially true for those who are not big into winter sports, such as skiing, snowboarding, etc. What to DO?! In our Backyard Trends Newsletter, we shared a few tips on beating the winter blues. We would like to add a few more suggestions. Here are a few ideas…

First of all, get out of the house! Most people who don’t enjoy winter so much have reason to complain because they are too cold. If this is the issue, take a look at your wardrobe and see what needs to be added! Add more layers, grab an extra sweater, and slip some gloves on! I am always amazed at how much of a difference wearing a scarf or an extra pair of socks make. Also, moving around and about gets your blood pumping and turns up your body heater. You’ll be toasty warm in just a few short minutes and pretty soon you’ll find yourself peeling off a layer or two! :)

Next, Enjoy Some Hot Chocolate!

Chocolate is known to cure almost anything, especially winter blues! If you find yourself feeling down and you REALLY don’t want to be outside very much, then go make some hot chocolate, grab some company (even if it is just me, myself, and I) and go sit outside for just FIVE MINUTES. One cup of hot chocolate, or coffee for you coffee lovers, will keep you warm for at least five minutes while you’re outside. You’ll reap a surprisingly long list of benefits, such as getting your body up and moving, breathing in the fresh air, a warm boost from the chocolate, clearing your mind, spending time with company, and getting an overall reboot. (Plus, the scenery is beautiful out in your pergola, if you have one!) It’s a win-win-win-win-win-…..need I say more?

If all else fails and you’ve resigned yourself to surfing the Internet and daydreaming for the warmer days to come, we have one more tip for you. Rather than dream away and lose yourself in fantasy land, start focusing your dreams in a certain direction. Wishing for warmer days? Wanting a beautiful yard? Start looking for pictures that align with that you are wishing for. Do you find yourself liking a particular color or design for your backyard? Pin the ones you like to your boards on Pinterest!
