What did more than 30,000 Pinterest pins tell us about outdoor swings?
Our Pinterest research showed the same hanging-seat pattern twice: first across more than 30,000 outdoor-living pins from other accounts, then again inside Western Timber Frame’s own Pinterest library.
We first analyzed more than 30,000 Pinterest pins from other accounts across the outdoor-living space. Among the most-saved structure pins in that analysis, hanging swings, hanging egg chairs, and porch swings were overwhelmingly common features.
That outside analysis gave us a practical hypothesis: people were not only saving pergolas, pavilions, gazebos, arbors, and trellises for the structure itself. The most engaging structure imagery frequently showed what the structure was for—a place to sit, swing, gather, or relax.
We applied that finding to our own Pinterest content and began featuring more swings and suspended seating.
When we analyzed the saves across our own Pinterest pin library, pins featuring a porch swing, hanging egg chair, or hammock earned about 60% more saves on average than structure pins without one — and were more than twice as likely to land among our most-saved pins.
