Rich Sequoia is our deep, red-toned brown — a warm reddish finish that calls up red mahogany and the rugged red-rock canyon walls of the Southwest. It’s bold and welcoming at once: a rich color that draws the eye while still sitting easily against stone, black iron, and green landscaping. It’s a Sherwin-Williams water-based stain, applied in two shop coats and backrolled so it works into the rough-sawn Douglas Fir — the color settles into the wood and pulls out its rough-sawn texture and a grounded, earthy warmth. Is Rich Sequoia a solid or a transparent stain?
It lays down real, red-toned brown color — not a clear finish. Because it’s worked into rough-sawn timber, it colors the wood while the rough-sawn texture still shows through it, so it looks like rich, natural wood rather than a painted-on coating. (Only our Natural finish is clear.)
Is Rich Sequoia too red or orange?
No — it’s a deep, balanced red-brown with the warmth of red mahogany, not a bright orange. On rough-sawn Douglas Fir it reads earthy and grounded rather than loud. Because tone can shift with light and the wood underneath, a sample is the surest way to see how it will look on your structure.
