Custom Outdoor Timber Frame Builders in Summit Park, Utah

Summit Park sits at the top of Parleys Canyon, near Parleys Summit, the 7,120-foot pass that marks the highest point on I-80 in Utah. It’s one of the Snyderville Basin neighborhoods around Park City, along with Pinebrook, Jeremy Ranch, and Silver Creek, and the 316-acre Summit Park Open Space keeps much of the hillside forested.

Western Timber Frame™ designs, engineers, and builds custom timber frame pergolas, pavilions, and outdoor living structures across Summit Park, Utah. Every structure is engineered to the specific lot: its soil, its grade, its snow and wind load, and the way you use the space.

Designed and Built in Utah — Delivered to Summit Park

Our structures are made in Utah — designed, engineered, and CNC-cut at our facility in Payson, about an hour and 25 minutes away. Every one of the 7,000+ structures we’ve delivered nationwide since 2008 started as raw timber on that shop floor.

For a Summit Park buyer, that means timber cut in-state, a design team you can call or visit, and a Custom-Engineered Kit delivered to your lot. We’ve built across the Park City area, including projects in Park City, Canyons Village, and Silver Summit.

It’s also why the U.S. Small Business Administration named us the 2026 SBA Utah District Manufacturing Small Business of the Year.

Designing Timber Structures for Summit Park’s Climate & Lifestyle

Summit Park sits at about 6,800 feet on forested slopes near Parleys Summit. At the nearby Snyderville weather station, Western Regional Climate Center records show an average July high near 79°F and about 174 inches of snow a year. Summit Park isn’t listed in the ground snow load table in Utah’s building code, so the figure comes from the Utah Snow Load Study. For comparison, the table lists 57 psf for Coalville at 5,581 feet, the only Summit County town in the table, and Summit Park sits more than 1,000 feet higher.

Summit Park is unincorporated, so Summit County’s Building Department issues permits. The county requires a building permit for the construction of any building or structure, with an exception for residential accessory buildings under 200 square feet. Projects here also follow the Snyderville Basin Development Code, and Summit County’s design criteria use a 36-inch frost depth, so footings go deeper than on the Wasatch Front.

Our standard engineering starts at 115 mph. Where the project requires a higher design wind speed, the structure is engineered for that requirement. We also engineer to your lot’s real snow load, soil, and exposure.

Neighborhoods we design for:

Wooded lots on the Strasse streets

Homes on streets named for Alpine towns, like Innsbruck Strasse and Saint Moritz Strasse, where steep, wooded lots call for a structure engineered to the slope.

Homes near Parleys Summit

Homes near the top of Parleys Canyon, where heavy snow and mountain wind both shape the design of a pergola or pavilion.

Neighbors in Pinebrook and Jeremy Ranch

Nearby Snyderville Basin neighborhoods like Pinebrook and Jeremy Ranch, where a pavilion or pergola turns a deck or patio into usable summer space.

Summit Park backs onto trails. The 316-acre Summit Park Open Space protects a densely forested hillside, with routes like Road to WOS and Over Easy reached from the Park View and Short Stack trailheads.

Custom Pergolas: Best Fit For Summit Park

With July highs near 79°F, strong mountain sun, and about 174 inches of snow a year, a Summit Park yard needs shade that works in summer and a structure that stands up in winter. A pergola or pavilion has to read as a permanent part of the property, not a mail-order add-on, whether it sits on a sloped, wooded lot or off a deck looking toward Parleys Canyon. That’s where custom engineering separates from a catalog cover.

Many aluminum and light-frame pergola kits provide significantly less coverage, while our ShadePrint™ approach measures actual coverage and can reach 80–85%, varying by orientation and time of day. Unlike metal, timber has low thermal conductivity, so it doesn’t heat the skin as quickly in the sun and surfaces stay more comfortable to the touch. Engineered for Summit Park’s mountain sun and winter snow, the Dovetail Difference® interlocks the timbers without metal brackets or exposed fasteners, with no visible hardware to loosen. Add lighting and power through TimberVolt® — engineered in, not bolted on.

The same craftsmanship scales up: Park City-area businesses, resorts, and event venues use commercial timber pavilions to turn a patio into a year-round, instantly recognizable space.

FAQs About Timber Structures in Summit Park, Utah

Usually. Summit Park is unincorporated, so permits come from Summit County’s Building Department. The county requires a building permit for any building or structure, except residential accessory buildings under 200 square feet. Snyderville Basin zoning rules still apply, so confirm your project with the county. We provide engineering documentation and stamped drawings prepared by a licensed engineer where required.

It depends on your address and elevation, and it’s much higher than on the Wasatch Front. Summit Park isn’t listed in the ground snow load table in Utah’s building code, so the figure comes from the Utah Snow Load Study. For comparison, the table lists 57 psf for Coalville at 5,581 feet, and Summit Park sits more than 1,000 feet higher. We engineer each structure to the figure for your lot.

Our standard engineering starts at 115 mph. Where the project requires a higher design wind speed, the structure is engineered for that requirement. Summit County’s design criteria also list 115 mph, and we engineer to the requirements for your lot.

Summit Park is in the Snyderville Basin, the unincorporated area around Park City, so Summit County handles building permits and the Snyderville Basin Development Code sets the zoning rules. If your home is in an HOA, check its rules too before you build.

Both. Each arrives as a Custom-Engineered Kit with complete instructions and no visible hardware — DIY-friendly, or we coordinate installation.

We build in Utah. Our shop is in Payson, about an hour and 25 minutes from Summit Park. Your structure is designed, engineered, and cut there, then delivered as a Custom-Engineered Kit, and you’re welcome to visit the shop before you commit.

Our experience with Western Timber Frame was excellent! It started with our sales representative Scott six months ago, who gave us a free pergola estimate and gave us space to think about it. We turned him down at the time, since we had drainage and other landscaping issues to solve before we could install a pergola. He graciously accepted our decision, which made us want to get in touch again when we were ready to install the pergola. Our project manager, David was easy to work with. He coordinated with our other landscapers to install footings in the middle of them redoing the paver patio. He also coordinated with them to find a way to install the posts, such that the wood would stay dry on top of the patio, but also we wouldn't be damaging the paver stones by putting screws in them. He also recommended an electrician who was able to wire our pergola to a nearby outdoor outlet. The installation crew was fast and detailed. They installed the pergola and touched up the paint in four hours! They were happy to have me point out spots to touch up. From when we signed paperwork to full installation and final walkthrough, it only took 4-6 weeks. We love the warranty as well. All-in-all, we had an excellent experience with Western Timber Frame. We are happy with our investment and would highly recommend them.

Western Timber Frame is awesome! Beautiful job on my deck and pergola install. Very detailed oriented, responsive and worked with me on the unanticipated re-deck foundation due to rotting joists from 2007 deck. Also hooked me up with a solid electrician. Would highly recommend to anyone! Shout out to Tyrell and Brian, the two fellas I worked with!

We installed a pergola about 10 years ago. I noticed recently that one of the main boards for a privacy lattice had a big split in it. They offered to come out and check to see what could be done. They decided to replace that board and repair some of the broken lattice slats because there's a lifetime warranty. David and his team were awesome to deal with. They worked well with us to get the pergola back to their standard. David was so nice and so was his team.

We now have not one but two Western Timberframe structures that we LOVE! The first one was built in 2022 and we just held a wedding reception using the 20 x 20 pergola as the reception area for the bride and groom and staging for the first dance. Just this winter, 2024, we added a pergola to our back patio. It complements our large pergola beautifully! From the salesman who first knocked on our door to the creators who helped us realize our dreams, to the construction team, to the team who reached out to do the scheduling, everyone has been great! Dave has been particularly helpful in replacing some faulty pieces(some Trex pieces on the skirting) on our original pergola. A-MAZING! THANKS, DAVE, YOU'RE THE BEST! Our pergolas are beautiful!

We had Western Timber Frames create a pergola for our outdoor kitchen and they did a fabulous job! They showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves, were respectful of our existing plants and trees, and the color matched perfectly to our deck. We had one of our corbels split and they came right out to take care of it. Not only did they replace the one with the split but they replaced ALL four of them to make sure we didn’t have any future problems. We would recommend them to anyone and plan to have them return for another project we have in mind for our yard. Love it!
