Meet Beach Sand

The color

Meet Beach Sand

Beach Sand is our soft, light, sandy neutral — a warm driftwood tone that reads airy, relaxed, and coastal. It keeps timber feeling light and open rather than dark or heavy, and its gentle warmth sits easily with almost any palette. Unlike our clear Natural finish, Beach Sand lays down real, soft color — a light oatmeal-sand that still lets the rough-sawn texture show through. It’s a Sherwin-Williams water-based stain, applied in two shop coats and backrolled so it works into the rough-sawn Douglas Fir instead of sitting on top like paint, and the rough-sawn texture stays part of the look. On a pergola, pavilion, or gazebo, Beach Sand feels calm, breezy, and effortlessly light.

What it brings

Coastal calm, grounded in timber

On a pergola or pavilion, Beach Sand keeps everything feeling light, open, and easy — the relaxed warmth of a day at the coast. Its soft, sandy neutral brightens a shaded space instead of darkening it, and it sits comfortably beside almost anything: white trim, pale stone, blue accents, and green landscaping all feel at home next to it. It lets the handcrafted grain and joinery show without pulling focus, so the structure reads calm and uncomplicated. Warm but never heavy, present but never loud: Beach Sand is the effortless, breezy backdrop for the places you relax.

Beach Sand FAQ

The details

Beach Sand, answered

What color is Beach Sand?

Beach Sand is our soft, light, sandy neutral — a warm driftwood tone that reads airy, relaxed, and coastal. It keeps timber feeling light and open rather than dark or heavy.

Is Beach Sand a solid or a transparent stain?

It lays down real, soft color — not a clear finish. Because it’s worked into rough-sawn timber, it colors the wood a light oatmeal-sand while the rough-sawn texture still shows through it. (Only our Natural finish is clear.)

Is Beach Sand warm or cool?

It’s a warm-leaning neutral — a soft, sandy driftwood tone rather than a cool grey. That warmth is what lets it sit easily beside almost any palette. Because tone can shift with light and the wood underneath, a sample is the surest way to see how it will read on your structure.

What structures can I get in Beach Sand?

Any of our timber structures — pergolas, pavilions, gazebos, cabanas, and more — can be finished in Beach Sand.

What stain does Western Timber Frame use for Beach Sand?

A Sherwin-Williams water-based stain, applied in two shop coats and backrolled so it works deeper into the rough-sawn surface than spraying alone. Because it’s water-based, it’s low-odor and low-VOC.

Does Beach Sand need maintenance?

Beach Sand is easy to care for. Like any real timber, an occasional re-coat keeps it looking its best — and because the color lives in the wood, refreshing it is simple, with no stripping required. See our stain touch-up & maintenance guide for the details.

What home styles does Beach Sand suit?

It’s a natural fit for light, relaxed settings — coastal and beachside homes, modern and minimal exteriors, and anywhere with pale siding, white trim, or lots of greenery. If you want your timber to read dark and dramatic, a deeper finish will suit better; for a light, airy, easygoing look, Beach Sand is hard to beat.

What colors pair well with Beach Sand?

Beach Sand makes a light, easy ceiling for two-tone work. Set it under darker beams — Rich Cordoba, Black Ebony, or Early American — and the light sand lifts the whole structure.

Can I order a Beach Sand sample?

Yes — samples are available on request, so you can see Beach Sand in your own light and setting before you decide.
