Designed and Built in Utah — Delivered to South Salt Lake
Our structures are made in Utah — designed, engineered, and CNC-cut at our facility in Payson, about an hour south. Every one of the 7,000+ structures we’ve delivered nationwide since 2008 started as raw timber on that shop floor.
For a South Salt Lake buyer, that means timber cut in-state, a design team you can call or visit, and a Custom-Engineered Kit delivered to your lot. We’ve built across Salt Lake County, including the storefront pergolas in West Valley City and the backyard pergola in Holladay pictured on this page, a timber cabana in Taylorsville, and projects next door in Salt Lake City and Millcreek.
It’s also why the U.S. Small Business Administration named us the 2026 SBA Utah District Manufacturing Small Business of the Year.
Designing Timber Structures for South Salt Lake’s Climate & Lifestyle
South Salt Lake sits on the valley floor at about 4,255 feet, between Salt Lake City and Millcreek. At the Salt Lake City International Airport station, long-term records from the Western Regional Climate Center show an average July high near 93°F and about 59 inches of snow a year. South Salt Lake isn’t listed in the ground snow load table in Utah’s residential code, so the figure comes from the Utah Snow Load Study. For comparison, the table lists 28 psf for neighboring Salt Lake City at 4,239 feet.
South Salt Lake’s building permits page covers most construction, and the city notes that only some minor work is exempt. The city’s zoning code requires accessory structures in single-family zones to sit behind the house, at least 10 feet from it and 3 feet from any property line, stay one story and no more than 700 square feet, and match the home’s architectural style, roofline, and exterior materials. The city can confirm how these rules apply to an open pergola.
Our standard engineering starts at 115 mph. Where the project requires a higher design wind speed, the structure is engineered for that requirement. We also engineer to your lot’s real snow load, soil, and exposure.
Neighborhoods we design for:
Older streets near Fitts Park
Older single-family homes on the east side near Fitts Park and the Historic Scott School green space, where a pergola has to fit a smaller lot and match the house.
Homes along Parley’s Trail and the S-Line
Homes along the S-Line streetcar and Parley’s Trail corridor, where a shaded patio gives a close-in lot real outdoor living space.
Apartments and businesses near Central Pointe
Newer apartment communities and businesses near Central Pointe Station, where a commercial pergola turns a courtyard into a shared outdoor room.
South Salt Lake’s trails tie the city together. Parley’s Trail runs alongside the S-Line, the Jordan River Parkway follows the river on the west side, and the Millcreek Trail crosses the city, with parks like Fitts Park, Columbus Park, and Lions Park along the way.

Structures We Build in South Salt Lake
Every structure is a Custom-Engineered Kit — purpose-built for your space, architecture, and lot.
Custom Pergolas: Best Fit For South Salt Lake
With July highs near 93°F and neighbors close on every side, a South Salt Lake yard needs shade that actually works. A pergola has to deliver real shade and read as a permanent part of the home, not a mail-order add-on, whether it sits behind an older home near Fitts Park or in a courtyard near the S-Line. That’s where custom engineering separates from a catalog cover.

Many aluminum and light-frame pergola kits provide significantly less coverage, while our ShadePrint™ approach measures actual coverage and can reach 80–85%, varying by orientation and time of day. Unlike metal, timber has low thermal conductivity, so it doesn’t heat the skin as quickly in the sun and surfaces stay more comfortable to the touch. Engineered for South Salt Lake’s summer sun and winter snow, the Dovetail Difference® interlocks the timbers without metal brackets or exposed fasteners, with no visible hardware to loosen. Add lighting and power through TimberVolt® — engineered in, not bolted on.
The same craftsmanship scales up: South Salt Lake’s businesses, parks, and event venues use commercial timber pavilions to turn a patio into a year-round, instantly recognizable space.

Engineering for South Salt Lake Conditions
Engineered to your lot’s soil, grade, snow load, and wind, based on the specific conditions of your property. We provide engineering documentation to support permitting and stamped drawings prepared by a licensed engineer where the project and jurisdiction require them.
Fabrication & Quality Control
Every timber is cut in-house at our own Payson shop, on CNC machinery we own and run ourselves — not sent out to a third-party fabricator. That means the same team that engineers your South Salt Lake structure also cuts it, with one line of control and accountability from design to delivery.
Warranty Coverage
Every Western Timber Frame structure carries a limited structural warranty. Length runs from 3 years on Deck Structures to 25 years on the 12K Series, based on the series you purchase.
Delivery & Installation Support
Ships as a Custom-Engineered Kit with complete instructions; DIY-friendly, or we can coordinate installation support.
We build around local permitting, including South Salt Lake’s building permits, accessory-structure rules, and any HOA approvals.
