Each post is core-bored, hand-cut, and custom-engineered to deliver clean, concealed electricity—straight through the heart of solid timber.

Precision-Prepped: Every Step That Counts
1. Cut to Length & Dovetail Joinery
Each post begins with precision-cut sizing and the application of our patented Dovetail Interlock™ system called The Dovetail Difference™, offering unmatched structural strength and a clean architectural finish.
2. Box Cavities Are Carved by Hand
Using a chain mortiser, skilled craftspeople hand-cut cavities for switches and outlets—working around knots, curves, and grain. Depending on the wood’s characteristics, each box takes 7 to 45 minutes to carve.
3. Drilling the Power Core
We use a proprietary air-assisted horizontal boring system to core the post. This slow, controlled process may require 20–100+ passes to stay centered and avoid blowouts—even more for longer or curved-grain posts.
⏱️ Fun Fact: It takes about 90+ minutes to bore an 8-foot post. Add 15 minutes for every extra foot!
4. Installing Electrical Boxes & Steel Protection Sleeve
Once drilled, recessed boxes are secured into place. Each is made of thermoplastic, UL-listed, and fire-rated. A steel sleeve is then inserted through the center to protect wires during installation, ensuring no lags or screws puncture the wiring.
5. Wiring, Switches, USBs, and Weather Covers
Every TimberVolt® model is outfitted with outdoor-rated, UL-listed proprietary wiring. Our models use high-performance wire jackets, reinforced blades, and weather-resistant seals. USB ports, TV ports, switches, and fan/light controls are all assembled in this step with weatherproof Hubbell® or equivalent covers. Everything is built for real-world durability.
6. Testing and Final Finishing
Every TimberVolt® post is electrically tested before leaving our shop, then stained and finished—ready to install and power up the moment it’s set in place.
