What Is Drill For Power™?

Drill For Power™ is Western Timber Frame’s custom core-drilling service that adds a hidden electrical chase to any timber structure — a clean, concealed path bored through the timber so you can run outlets, switches, lighting, or low-voltage lines with no exposed conduit or visible wiring.

Your timber arrives pre-drilled with the outlet and switch boxes placed to your specifications, ready to wire on-site — by your electrician or with our TimberVolt® system. It works indoors or out, and the chase can sit ready for power you add later. Across more than 7,000 finished structures nationwide, Western Timber Frame has built in details meant for changing outdoor needs.

Drill For Power™ uses Western Timber Frame’s patented TimberVolt® technology — U.S. Patent No. 10,053,861, “Power Distribution Post for Use in Timber Frame Structures.”

Built Into a Dovetailed Timber Frame

Drill For Power goes into the same timber that’s built on Western Timber Frame’s patented Dovetail Difference® — a trapezoidal joint that interlocks the timbers together without a single metal bracket.

The wedge shape lets the timber flex and settle naturally with the seasons instead of loosening over time, and because no exposed steel holds it together, there’s nothing to rust or corrode. The structure that carries your power is made to last for generations. Western Timber Frame engineers that frame to a 115 mph standard design wind speed, higher where the site requires it, so the wiring inside stays protected.

What is Drill For Power?
Drill For Power is Western Timber Frame’s custom core-drilling service that adds a hidden electrical chase — plus custom-placed outlet and switch boxes — to any timber structure, so you can run power or low-voltage lines with no exposed conduit or visible wiring.
How is Drill For Power different from the other TimberVolt models?
The Firefly™, Phoenix™, Dragon™, and Inferno™ are pre-configured power posts. Drill For Power is the fully custom option: you get the drilled chase and boxes placed to your specifications, wired by your electrician or with the TimberVolt system.
Can I add power later?
Yes. The chase sits ready inside the timber, so you can add lighting, fans, or outlets later without cutting into or disrupting your structure.
Do I need an electrician?
Your timber arrives pre-drilled with the boxes installed. Final wiring is done on-site by your electrician or with the plug-and-power TimberVolt system.
Can Drill For Power be used indoors?
Yes — it works for interior or exterior timber, from outdoor posts to exposed beams inside the home.
What can run through the chase?
Standard electrical for outlets, switches, and lighting, plus low-voltage and data lines — all hidden inside the timber.
