A Landmark Timber Project at Zions Canyon Hot Springs

Zions Canyon Hot Springs isn’t just another stop on the map. It’s a destination carved into red rock, where people come for rest, renewal, and connection. Designing for a space like this means more than simply putting beams in the ground — it means shaping the guest experience itself.

That’s where Western Timber Frame™ came in.

This project called for an extensive series of pergolas, trellises, and cabanas — each one cut from Douglas Fir, each one designed to balance sunlight with shade, openness with privacy. It’s one of the largest commercial timber frame undertakings of its kind, and it demanded the kind of precision and creativity that comes only from working closely with architects, designers, and contractors.

The Installation

Across the site, our team supplied and installed:

  • Pergolas
    • 10 Four-Post Amber Pergolas
    • 21 Three-Post Ruby Pergolas
  • Trellises
    • 1 Main Building Entrance
    • 2 Main Building Awning Trellises
    • 1 Food & Beverage Building Trellis (40×14)
    • 1 L-Shaped Adult Side Trellis
    • 1 Food & Beverage Building Trellis (60×15)
    • 2 Restroom Awning Trellises (Family & Adult Sides)
  • Cabanas
    • 22 Cabanas (15×15)
    • 5 Cabanas (15×30)
    • 1 Cabana (15×45)

Every beam was cut, fitted, and finished with the durability of mass timber and the artistry of exposed joinery.

Why Timber Matters Here

Visitors don’t come to Zions Canyon Hot Springs to escape the sun entirely — they come to feel its warmth, softened just enough for comfort. These structures were designed to:

  • Let natural light filter through without harshness.
  • Create privacy without closing guests off from the surroundings.
  • Blend seamlessly into the desert landscape while holding up to heavy use.
  • Anchor the grounds with structures that look as permanent as the cliffs behind them.

Built Through Collaboration

A project of this scope isn’t built in isolation. We worked hand in hand with designers, engineers, and contractors to ensure each structure didn’t just meet spec — it met the spirit of the place. From poolside pergolas to private cabanas, every detail was custom.

This is what Western Timber Frame™ does best:

  • Commercial custom timber framing at any scale.
  • Exposed and mass timber designs engineered for hospitality, recreation, and wellness.
  • Installation with care so every beam not only fits — it belongs.

A Destination Experience

Zions Canyon Hot Springs is more than an architectural project — it’s a travel experience. Just 30 minutes from Zion National Park, it has become a landmark retreat where visitors can enjoy mineral-rich pools, private cabanas, and wide-open desert skies. For travelers exploring southern Utah, it’s the perfect balance of adventure and rest, of canyon trails and wellness amenities.

Our timber structures play a central role in framing that experience.

A Lasting Impression

Standing on the grounds today, you see more than shade structures. You see rhythm, order, and craft woven into a resort that people will remember. Every pergola, every trellis, every cabana is a frame through which guests will experience Zions Canyon Hot Springs for years to come.

This was a project of scale. A project of care. And a project that shows exactly why timber frame changes not just a space, but the way people gather within it.
