Belonging Has an Address: Three Daybreak Projects That Bring Life Outdoors
Living Close to Nature
All around the world, neighborhoods are remembering something timeless — people live and feel better when they’re close to nature. This idea, called biophilic design, weaves sunlight, water, and green space into everyday life. It’s not just about beauty; it’s about balance — between people, place, and the living world around them.
Building Belonging in Daybreak
Daybreak isn’t just another Utah neighborhood — it’s a living design experiment in community. Every path, lake, and garden is placed with intention. It’s built around the idea of “villages within a village.” Each area has its own character, yet everything still connects — homes, trails, and gathering spaces all flowing together. You can walk or bike almost anywhere. There are parks on every corner and bridges that cross the water. Each space is designed for neighbors to meet naturally, without needing to plan it.
That’s why we love building here.
Where Timber Shapes the Heart of the Community

Western Timber Frame has helped shape some of those shared spaces — like the timber pavilion by the bridge, glowing at dusk. Or the dock where kids dangle their feet over the water on summer afternoons. These structures aren’t just part of the landscape; they help people feel part of it too.
And that same sense of belonging is what each homeowner wants in their own yard.
The pergolas, decks, and arbors we’ve built across Daybreak aren’t just about shade or structure. These spaces are personal, yet they still belong to something bigger. Each one carries the same walkable, connected rhythm that gives Daybreak its soul.
A few streets away, one family found that rhythm for themselves — turning a narrow side yard into a restful outdoor retreat.
Daybreak Pergola Brings Comfort, Shade, and New Life to a Side Yard
Each project tells the story of a family who wanted something more than structure — they wanted a place to belong. Western Timber Frame has helped many Daybreak families turn sunny patios, narrow walkways, and unused corners into spaces where life happens naturally.
What began as a small, sunny patio became a place this Daybreak family now uses every day. Their new pergola adds cool shade, charm, and comfort — turning an area that was once too hot to enjoy into a favorite retreat. This white timber pergola was designed and built by Western Timber Frame. As a result, it brings beauty and belonging to the side yard. It also creates a peaceful place to rest, read, and reconnect outdoors.

I was talking with Cory from Western Timber about our pergola that they installed about 5 years ago. It was the best decision we made to have it installed. We could not use our patio much before due to the intensity of the sun, but we now use it all the time. My husband has health problems and enjoys sitting outside reading and enjoying the fresh air, and we enjoy using it with family and friends.
Before: A Patio with Potential

Across the neighborhood, another family reimagined their backyard too — this time with a timber frame pavilion that invites everyone outdoors from sunrise to starlight.
Daybreak Pavilion and Redwood Deck Transformation
This Daybreak family started with a concrete patio. Little shade. Little seating. Not much reason to linger.
Now the space draws people outdoors first. A 16×20 redwood deck offers room to spread out, while the timber frame pavilion adds shade, shelter, and a sense of place. It’s the kind of setting made for morning smoothies, after-school chats, and quiet talks as the day winds down.

After: A Timber Frame Pavilion that Brings the Family Outdoors

Wide stairs invite everyone down to the stone patio for games and grilling. The TimberVolt® Dragon power post makes lights, speakers, and small tools simple to plug in. No cords across walkways. No hassle.

Under the surface, footings were set through the flatwork to keep the structure solid for years. Above, the shingled roof keeps rain and strong sun off the space. As a result, the family uses the deck in more seasons and at more times of day.
Most of all, the change is how it feels. The pavilion creates a destination right outside the back door. It’s where stories are told, friends drop by, and the day winds down together. That’s the heart of outdoor living in Daybreak—beautiful timber, practical design, and the strength of The Dovetail Difference®.
Charmaine shared her thoughts in a Google review → describing how the Western Timber Frame team turned her vision into a beautiful, lasting space.

Not far from there, another Daybreak home found its harmony too — this time through a design that ties every element together: pergola, awning, arbor, and deck, all speaking the same quiet language of craftsmanship and care.
A Backyard That Feels Like Part of the Home
In Daybreak, harmony runs deep — in the streets, the gardens, the way every home seems to hum the same quiet song of belonging. For this family, that sense of belonging didn’t stop at the back door. They wanted a place where they could slow down and actually be together — somewhere shaded, welcoming, and calm.

Western Timber Frame designed a 14×24 freestanding timber frame pergola paired with a deck, awning, and arbor — all built from durable Douglas Fir in our 8000 Series Champion beam profile. To meet Daybreak’s HOA requirements, we applied a custom-matched gray stain, blending perfectly with the neighborhood palette while highlighting the natural character of the wood.
The back step area used to feel like a pass-through — a narrow spot between inside and out. Now, the small platform has become a quiet pause in the day. The wider steps welcome you down gently. At dusk, low step lights glow along the edges and guide the way. A slim metal railing adds a clean, modern line, while the timber-frame awning overhead gives the entry a sense of shelter. It’s a simple design, yet it changes how the space feels. Now the doorway belongs to the home — and the outdoors belongs to the family.

The old arbor had stood for years, weathered and leaning, more memory than structure. It framed the side garden, but barely — a hint of what could be. Now, the new timber frame arbor feels like the gateway to something alive. TimberClad™ metal accents give the posts a polished, finished look. A TimberVolt® power post provides light and utility exactly where it’s needed. The custom stain ties it to the home, and when the evening light hits, the whole walkway seems to glow. It’s no longer just a path between spaces — it’s part of the rhythm of the family’s day.
Before: A Narrow Side Yard Ready for Renewal

After installation — the new timber frame Arbor architectural character

Before, the yard was open but hard to spend time in. The sun hit the patio all day. As a result, even in cooler evenings, it never felt like a place to stay. The side walkway was narrow and bare, a forgotten stretch between house and fence.

after

Under its beams, there’s a quietness that wasn’t there before. It’s the sound of chairs pulled close, of soft conversations at dusk. Kids wander through the arbor that leads from one part of the garden to the next. It’s not a grand backyard, but it feels whole — the kind of space that makes life pause for a while.
The home now feels more complete. Outdoor living flows easily, like the water through Daybreak’s canals. Each TimberClad™ accent and every Dovetail Difference® joint speaks the same purpose: creating spaces where life feels connected again.
