Tuscany Pergola to Lattice Fence: One Inspires the Next

Some projects are complete the moment we leave the job site. Others? They plant a seed. You build something beautiful, it transforms a space, and then a year later, the homeowner calls with an idea to take it even further.

This is two projects, one year apart, each with its own personality, but connected by a shared style and vision.

Project One: The Tuscany Style Pergola

The first chapter began with a freestanding 14′ x 16’6″ Tuscany-style pergola in crisp white timber — a bold yet welcoming structure designed for year-round outdoor living.

About Tuscany Style:

Tuscany timber structures bring Old-World charm to outdoor living. They feature substantial posts, oversized beams, and precise detailing for a timeless, elegant look. Western Timber Frame® Tuscany style pergolas and pavilions capture the warmth of the Italian countryside. They are ideal for both residential backyards and commercial spaces, from small patios to large recreational areas. Classic columns, often designed to look like marble, limestone, or travertine, pair beautifully with traditional Tuscan rafter cuts. Warm wood finishes and balanced proportions create a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. These Tuscany pergolas and pavilions feel as though they have always been part of the landscape. Each one is built with precision joinery and handcrafted detail, creating a lasting centerpiece for shade, gatherings, and year-round enjoyment.

Project Two: The Brick-and-Lattice Fence with Gates

Custom double lattice gate crafted from white timber with an arched top design, set on a black metal frame for strength and durability, providing stylish access while concealing utility areas.

A year after the pergola was installed, the homeowner wanted to bring that same refined look to the rest of the yard. The goal was a custom fence and gates that complemented the pergola while adding privacy and function.

For this project, the brick walls and columns were completed by a masonry team. As with many of our projects — both residential and commercial — we coordinated our design and construction with their work to ensure every element fit together seamlessly. By planning and building in harmony with other skilled trades, we helped bring the homeowner’s vision to life in a way that feels intentional, cohesive, and timeless.

  • Matching gates built on custom metal frames for strength
  • Lattice pattern echoes the pergola’s visual rhythm
  • Designed to hide practical elements like garbage bins and AC units
  • Durable Douglas Fir construction with a white finish for cohesion
  • Concrete footings for long-term stability

This fence does more than mark a boundary. It frames the property, keeps sightlines open, and provides a beautiful backdrop for landscaping. It’s functional, architectural, and built to last.

A Story That’s Bigger Than One Project

What makes this pairing so special is how seamlessly the second project feels like a continuation of the first. Even a year apart, the design language holds true. That’s the beauty of working with timber. Whether it’s a pergola, a privacy fence, or even a large-scale commercial or recreational structure, the craftsmanship and materials always speak the same language.

When you start with a vision, each addition becomes part of a bigger picture.
