Strength in Every Beam: Lamar University’s Timber Pavilion Project
Built to Last. Crafted to Inspire. Engineered for Campus Life.
This timber pavilion installation at Lamar University showcases what happens when architectural strength meets year-round craftsmanship. Western Timber Frame™ designed and installed this 42×62 structure to perform through every season — even in rain, wind, or winter conditions — creating a sheltered space that will serve the Texas campus for decades to come.
The result? A stunning 42×62 timber pavilion, custom-designed with Champion-profile beams, Cove-style knee braces, and a full Beach Sand tongue-and-groove ceiling finish — anchored firmly on a finished concrete foundation, even as raindrops fall.

From Shop Drawings to Structural Masterpiece
Early in the planning phase, Western Timber Frame™ provided a full set of architectural shop drawings to guide collaboration between stakeholders, engineers, and installation crews. Renderings detailed every angle — from truss configuration and gable closures to electrical prep and roof span.
With structural clarity and craftsmanship on full display, the project moved seamlessly from concept to construction.

On-Site Installation: A Build That Speaks for Itself
Despite wet Texas weather, the Western Timber Frame™ install team got to work — proving once again that our structures go up in every season. From rainstorms to snowfalls, we install year-round with expert precision. Each post and beam arrives pre-cut and pre-finished, allowing for fast, efficient assembly no matter the weather. In fact, winter is often one of the best times to enhance your landscape, taking advantage of off-peak schedules while preparing your space to shine come spring.
Even mid-install, the professionalism of the build is apparent. Clean cuts, level alignment, and strong timber joinery reflect a standard that Lamar University can count on for decades to come.
Built-In TimberVolt® Power Posts

As part of the structural system, the pavilion features integrated TimberVolt® power posts — providing discreet access to power and lighting without external conduit or surface-mount boxes.
Whether hosting campus events, student activities, or community gatherings, the space is prepped for real-world performance with no aesthetic compromise.
Timber Framing That Reflects the Institution
Western Timber Frame’s Champion profile and Cove knee braces were selected to reflect the strength and identity of Lamar University — while the Early American stain with Beach Sand T&G ceiling adds warmth and dimension to the open-air space.
Every aspect of the design was crafted to complement the university’s character: welcoming, enduring, and rooted in tradition.
