Custom Timber Frame Deck and Color Matched Outdoor Structures
This homeowner had a vision for their outdoor space—something that would feel like it had always belonged to their home. What began as a weathered wooden deck and a collection of multi-level areas became a showcase of custom craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and the kind of listening that turns a client’s ideas into a space that truly feels like home.

The Opportunity: Rebuilding for Strength, Safety, and Seamless Integration
Looking at the “before” photos, we saw an outdoor space that had clearly been enjoyed for years. The existing wood deck carried that natural, weathered look that comes from sun, seasons, and everyday life. And while it had served the family well, it was reaching the point where a full rebuild made the most sense.

Rather than patching or piecing it back together, we replaced the deck with a heavy-duty timber frame deck built for long-term strength and stability. It’s the kind of upgrade that helps a homeowner stay ahead of potential safety concerns in the future—so the space remains solid, secure, and worry-free for years to come.
From there, the priority was clear: every new timber element needed to look and feel like it had been part of the home since day one. That meant precise planning, careful integration, and custom finish work designed specifically for this property—not a one-size-fits-all package.
The Solution: Custom Everything
Working closely with Project Design Manager Darren Dunn, we developed a comprehensive plan that addressed every part of this outdoor transformation. Darren’s experience in custom design solutions was key in creating a cohesive vision—one that blended multiple timber structures and a new heavy-duty deck into one unified outdoor retreat.

A Custom Two Tone Pavilion for Boat and Vehicle Protection
We designed a 12×24 Woodland Series timber pavilion specifically to protect the family’s boat and truck from the elements. With upgraded 8×8 Douglas Fir posts and enhanced beams, this covered structure provides the strength and span needed for boat storage and vehicle protection.
And this is where the custom craftsmanship really stands out: instead of standard staining, we created a custom two-tone finish—crisp white posts and beams paired with custom blue tongue-and-groove ceiling planks that perfectly matched the home’s existing blue siding.
The result is a timber boat cover and vehicle pavilion that serves as both protective storage and an architectural statement piece that ties the entire property together. Once installed, the dark grey corrugated metal roof will provide dependable weather protection while echoing the home’s roofline, and the knife plate hardware adds structural integrity with refined visual appeal. This covered pavilion keeps both vehicles sheltered year-round while enhancing curb appeal.

The Pergola and Deck Transformation
Adjacent to the boat and vehicle pavilion, we installed a 14×19 Summit Series timber pergola in matching white, creating a cohesive flow across the outdoor space.
Beneath it, the new heavy-duty timber frame deck creates a strong, clean foundation for outdoor living—built to feel secure underfoot and designed to support everyday use for years to come. The finished space feels open, intentional, and connected, with materials and lines that complement the home rather than compete with it.
Custom blue fascia ties back to the pavilion’s ceiling, creating visual continuity that makes the entire installation feel unified. Black powder-coated metal railings provide modern contrast while supporting confident movement across multiple levels.

The Upper Deck and Custom Cabana
We extended the transformation to the upper level, bringing the same craftsmanship and cohesion to every part of the space. Matching black railings continue the clean, consistent look while supporting the long-term safety and confidence the homeowner wanted.
A custom ridgeline boxed timber cabana—with blue risers on the stairs—carries the cohesive color story through every detail, reinforcing that “built-for-this-home” look from one end of the project to the other.

The Transformation: Before and After
The before photos show an outdoor space that had earned its character over time. The wood decking and railings had weathered through years of use, and the overall layout felt more like separate zones than one unified retreat.
The after photos reveal something entirely different. The new timber structures anchor the space with architectural presence, while the heavy-duty timber frame deck creates strong, secure surfaces for gathering, relaxing, and everyday life. Every structure feels purposeful, every color choice intentional, and every detail considered. The white-and-blue palette doesn’t just match the house—it elevates the entire property, creating an alpine retreat atmosphere that feels inviting and alive.

The Western Timber Frame Difference
This project reflects what we love most about what we do. We collaborated with our client to understand their vision—including their desire for protected storage for their boat and vehicles and a deck replacement that would remain strong and dependable over time—and then planned each detail so the entire build came together smoothly.

More Than Structures: Creating Connection

At the heart of this project is something we see time and again, and it never gets old: this family now has the outdoor space they dreamed about. Where there were once separate outdoor areas, there’s now a unified retreat—a place to gather, to relax, to protect valued possessions like boats and vehicles, and to enjoy outdoor living in a way that feels natural to the home. And they can do it all with the peace of mind that comes from knowing their space is built to be as solid as it is beautiful.
The covered timber pavilion protects their boat and truck from weather and sun damage while creating a striking entrance to the property. The new pergola and deck areas create an inviting setting for family gatherings and quiet evenings alike. Every element works together to expand their living space, draw them outdoors, and bring people closer—just like a great outdoor retreat should.
It’s this kind of transformation that reminds us why we do what we do.
Preserving Your Property’s Character
Whether you’re looking to enhance a residential property or add architectural distinction to a commercial space, the key is honoring what’s already there. This project showcases what’s possible when custom timber structures are designed to complement existing architecture—matching colors, echoing design elements, and creating that seamless look where new feels original.
We work with homeowners, property managers, and business owners who want outdoor structures that don’t just add function, but enhance the overall aesthetic and value of their property. From residential pavilions and pergolas to boat covers, RV shelters, vehicle pavilions, commercial outdoor spaces, exposed timber beam work, and complete timber frame buildings, the approach remains the same: thoughtful design, custom craftsmanship, and structures built to last.
