Featured today is a 10,000 Series ShadeScape™ pergola kit installed to replace a wood encased metal pergola next to a family swimming pool for shade. Here, is what Design Manager Mike Jenson told us:

Mrs. Johnson called and asked originally if we could come out and take a look at their existing "Pergola" as it was about 20 Years old and need to be "refurbished" The existing structure was made of Steel for the main structure and was wrapped with different sizes of wood. Anything from 2x4's up to 2x8's. The existing wood was basically rotting away. After going to site and looking at the condition of the Pergola we suggested that we completely take out the existing structure. Steel and all and replace with a brand new Timber Frame Pergola.

After several meetings and drawings we were able to come up with a new structure that was very similar to the old structure and have it built with the DoveTail Connections and connected to the Footings with our Knife Plates.

One of the Main concerns of the Johnson's was the Maintenance of the structure as they did not want to have to Re-Stain and maintain the color of the structure. So they decided to go with our "bleach" Treatment which is Maintenance Free so they will be able to enjoy their structure for a lifetime.

Thank you to the Johnson's for the opportunity to challenge is with this design as we had many compound angles and notches on our Dovetails. In the end it all went together perfectly.
