Every ShadeScape™ timber frame structure kit is custom, however, some kits really stand out as stunningly unique. In the spotlight today is a Texas ShadeScape™ DIY pavilion plan that is one of those eye-catching projects. With each outdoor living project that we are privileged to do, it is like exploring the world wherein you get to discover a whole new backyard space that has never been seen before.

Ah, for the modern age of technology that allows us to see through photographs the satisfying accomplishments that our clients achieve, with these easy DIY timber frame kits that go up so quickly. I didn’t get to experience this DIY pavilion plan fully completed, in person, but seeing it here in pictures, featured below, it is so rewarding. This family did awesome in creating their own beautiful, backyard oasis.

Excitingly unique, the ShadeScape™ DIY pavilion kit featured below was pre-cut, pre-drilled and pre-tested in our shop; shipped through three States and installed in Midland, Texas by the homeowner. Which, by the way, shipping is FREE across the contiguous USA. That is quite awesome, especially considering these kits are not a “cookie cutter” or big box store kit. These timber frame shade structures weigh thousands of pounds!

From the schematics pictured here, you can better visualize, especially with the standing woman to compare with, the incredible size of these timber shade structures.  This design created a sanctuary for the family that is much akin to a pagoda or bethel.

This is a solid Cedar wood 8000 Series ShadeScape™ DIY pavilion kit featuring a 15’6” x 16’8” roof, knee braces and beam and rafter end profiles and is finished in a premium, high-grade Canyon Grey UV protective stain.

The homeowners visualized their DIY pavilion plan with a more cathedral-like, Polynesian hipped styled roof. It was a good choice in this backyard makeover; which to me, though it is a more traditional Polynesian styled roof, I get a more Spanish style, private courtyard feel from it.

The pavilion was drilled for power. Drilling for power is ideal for outdoor lights and electrical needs. It is the best way to maximize your outdoor living experience.

Installing lights is so easy once all the preparation and hard work have been done for you. Western Timber Frame™ also offers a TimberVolt™ power post from a series of models. These have a hole that is pre-drilled through the entire length of the post and can be used for your Electrician to run his own wiring, water lines for Water Misters, water taps, network cables, cat 5 lines, TV lines, etc. It is all concealed and out of sight and also offers protection from the elements. They all have electrical boxes with blank covers installed and ready for use.

Many people are fascinated by the TimberVolt™ electrical post and are intrigued as to how we drill a hole through the entire length of such a long post and will ask us, “Do you just drill it with a long drill bit?” or “Do you just bore it out?” And the simple answer is Yes! But the actual process is pretty fascinating and requires a great deal of skill from an experienced timber wright craftsman and requires highly specialized proprietary equipment to “drill a hole” through the entire length of a heavy timber post.

As for this DIY pavilion plan, it was drilled for power for outdoor lights; which included a lightbox or outlet box mortise in the post. The lighting is very elegant and is a wonderful place the family enjoys everyday, even late into the evening.
