Thirty-five years ago, machine embroidering on a home sewing machine was an exciting new thing for me. I loved pretty and artistic things and so I aspired to embroider an entire Queen size bed spread. To a non-sewing person, I will just say was extremely tedious and it would not have been a frugal project; for which reason I never finished it.
Today however, my aspirations have changed dramatically! The kind of DIY projects I look forward to are “Simple”, “Uncluttered”, “Quick & Easy”, “No Sew”, “No Bake”, “Perennials”, “Low/No Maintenance”, “Xeriscaping”, “Online Shopping”, “Automatic Deposit” and so on. I still love DIY projects, beautiful and artistic things but I like to think I have a bit more mindfulness and consciousness of my time and meaning in life. Life, I believe is meant to be enjoyed, not wasted.
A timber frame pergola kit from Western Timber Frame™ is a quick and easy, durable DIY project with a straight-forward peace of mind that can be installed in most cases in as little as ONE AFTERNOON! This is my kind of a plan for a DIY project, where I can put up a beautiful outdoor living shade structure in one day and then spend the rest of the year enjoying it with my family.
Western Timber Frame™ uses their The Dovetail Difference™ design, a massive mortise and tenon dovetail joint system throughout our timber construction process that creates very strong, rigid joints. On the pressure test featured here the load bearing The Dovetail Difference™ joint didn’t give until over 11,000 lbs.!
This is a Douglas-fir, traditional style DIY timber frame 16’ x 28’ pergola plan from Western Timber Frame™ than was installed as a kit in Bluffdale, Utah. The measurement for a DIY pergola kit size is considered the roof size. Very often when a client says they would like an 12′ x 20′ DIY pergola kit for their patio they are usually talking about where the posts will sit on the patio, which would be the footprint size.
A roof can have varying roof over hangs depending on what you want to accomplish. For example, a timber frame pergola going in next to a pool might have the roof close to the edge of the pool but move the posts back to keep them out of the walkway around the pool. This makes the roof overhang bigger on one side of the pergola and that is something we do all the time but for this reason we price the pergolas by the roof size and not the footprint size.
Here is the 8000 Series timber frame DIY pergola kit featuring Classic style knee braces, Crescent Step style beam profiles, TimberVolt™ Inferno outdoor power post and is finished in a premium high-grade UV protective Early American stain. The footprint size for this pergola is 14’ x 26’. The kit was installed on a pre-poured concrete pad.
Our client’s pictures showed us an impressive job, well done, that went up quick and easy. These structures are built with old world craftsmanship, architectural mortise and tenon dovetail, without the use of nails or glue; built to last for generations. If you are installing a Western Timber Frame™ DIY timber frame pergola kit any time soon, plan for a fast and easy DIY project that will be exciting to finish and be artistically beautiful. Winter is a great time for timber framing and home improvement.
16' x 28' Pergola Features the Western Timber Frame™ TimberVolt™ Inferno Power Post
Lighting gives longer hours to enjoy more time with family outdoors.
The homeowners added the TimberVolt™ Inferno power post which provides a beautiful finished look on the timber frame pergola as well as safety. There are many benefits to the TimberVolt™ series such as eliminating conduits, nails, unsightly and unsafe exposed wire, the need to trench over power. It reduces the cost of, or even eliminates the need to hire an electrician. It also eliminates the chance of damaging a post trying to add electrical wiring to a post after it’s installed. Your structure is ready to use the moment it installed no need to wait for someone to wire it up. The Timbervolt™ posts can be added to as needed in various configurations. The Inferno and Dragon models are protected with GFI plugs for your safety and your equipment and are a completely self contained unit for easy grid-free power. For a silent application, we recommend a GOALZERO generator with a GOALZERO solar panel installed on top of your outdoor living structure and your ready to go. The Inferno model features integrated USB outlets; charge your smartphones, tablets, and other USB devices, while you watch movies on your outdoor TV that is plugged into one of the main electrical receptacles up top.
