For a time this gorgeous area by Lake Michigan in Indiana was used predominately for summertime getaways. In a unique setting on this beautiful shore is this historical home that once belonged to William Mathias Scholl, the famous Dr. Scholl's®.
Design Manager Jason sent us these pictures of this Western Timber Frame DIY attached pergola kit installed on this historical lake shore mansion by Steve, the homeowner. Steve did a fabulous job and it turned out so beautiful as though it had been a part of the original structure. What a fun project!
This is an Oversize kit with a roof measurement of 50'8'' x 13'', a 46'1&1/2'' x 10'CC foot print and a roof height of 10' 8". It is manufactured with Douglas-fir. Featured on this attached pergola kit is custom beam and rafter end profiles, custom knee braces, 4x12 beams with a 4x14 center post beam, 3x8 braces, 3x10 rafters, 8x8 posts, 2x2 three tear rafters with an Early American premium high-grade exterior timber stain.
Dr. William Mathias Scholl
Dr. Scholl was born into a family of thirteen children. His grandfather was a cobbler and a farmer and sometimes as a youngster William would borrow his grandfather’s cobbler tools to earn some extra money repairing shoes. Dr. Scholl later began working as a salesman in a shoe store in the evening while attending medical school.
Dr. Scholl became very intrigued with podiatry. He invented the arch support in 1904 and founded the company: Dr. Scholl's®. Dr. Scholl designed over 1,000 innovative foot care products. He wrote four books on the anatomy, mechanics, physiology, deformities and treatments in foot care and founded the Illinois College of Chiropody and Orthopedics; which is now the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine belonging to Chicago's Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.
Shoes sizes used to be simply "wide" or "narrow" until Dr. Scholl standardized shoe sizes. Today, Dr. Scholl having never married; has the namesake of arch supports, shoe insoles, bunion and corn pads and more.
Dr. Scholl was a very compassionate man who concerned himself deeply about the comfort and health of others.

The thought of enjoying oneself under this timber frame pergola next to the exhilarating lake would have pleased someone as kind as Dr. Scholl. What an awesome place for Steve and his family to enjoy for generations to come. Well done.
