Fire has always been more than fuel—it is a symbol of warmth, hospitality, and connection. From ancient traditions across the world to George Washington’s hearth, people have gathered around flames to share stories and strengthen bonds. Today, timber frame pergolas, pavilions, gazebos, and trellises continue that tradition, creating modern living hearths where families, friends, and communities come together.
A Holladay, Utah, family wanted a pergola that matched their home and added privacy. It went up in one afternoon and was ready to use that day.
It makes me want to walk right under the white majestic beams of this DIY pergola. Full front view of a 16′ x 32′ DIY timber frame pergola kit finished in premium white stain.
Over the phone, in person, or through email, these Design Managers help them to determine what their needs. This spectacularly white DIY pergola kit was erected by two installers for Western Timber Frame™, Lyman and Tristan who sent us these pictures of the completed install from their phone.

The best covered patio idea depends on how your family actually uses the space — not just how it looks in a photo. Open pergolas deliver 80-85% shade with natural airflow. Pavilions and gazebos give you full rain protection under a solid timber roof. Cabanas add a slanted roofline with an architectural edge. This guide compares every option so you can match the structure to the way you live outside.
