We engineer it in from day one. Inside A Real Installation: The K. They sent us photos and measurements. We sent back a 3D rendering of the structure in their actual yard, against their actual house. Looking at it, they spotted something we hadn't: "upon looking at the rendering we realized the peak of the pavilion against the house had an ugly view of our house's roof. We decided to add planking there to cover that." A sightline issue, fixed in software, weeks before any timbers were cut. Rather than wait through a four-hour delivery window mid-week, they hooked up a trailer, drove to the freight terminal, and picked up the load themselves. Two trips. Then they built it. Husband prepped the footers one weekend. Three more weekends with — in Melanie's own words — "two strong guys, and an unskilled wimpy helper (me)." Roofing, electrical, ceiling fan, and lighting all went in alongside. What she said about working with the timbers: "The dovetail and tongue and groove cuts on all the pieces made putting them together quick. The instructions for the build were spot on and very easy to read. The lumber was excellent quality.
